Spectrum Works Launches Internship Program for Autistic Individuals at ZAGO

ZAGO is excited to announce that Spectrum Works, a leading nonprofit dedicated to empowering autistic individuals through employment opportunities, has chosen ZAGO Manufacturing Co. to launch its Spectrum Works internship program at ZAGO’s Newark location. The internship program aims to provide valuable hands-on experience to autistic individuals, fostering their professional growth and contributing to a more inclusive workforce.
 
The inaugural intern, Jeremy, has already made a significant impact within the ZAGO Manufacturing team. His enthusiasm and dedication to his work have not only impressed his colleagues but have also highlighted the success of Spectrum Works' mission in facilitating meaningful employment opportunities.
 
"I LOVE IT! I love the tasks I am doing at ZAGO. The people I work with are very nice and treat me with respect. I am learning how to independently perform my duties with the expert guidance of the staff at ZAGO and my Spectrum Works job coach,” Jeremy stated, sharing his experience.
 
The collaborative program between Spectrum Works and ZAGO is designed to provide interns like Jeremy with a supportive and inclusive environment where they can develop their skills and gain real-world experience in a professional setting. ZAGO Manufacturing Co., a company committed to diversity and inclusion, is excited to collaborate with Spectrum Works in this initiative.
 
“We are absolutely thrilled to have Jeremy working with us on-site here at ZAGO.  Jeremy quickly became a focused, dedicated member of the team.  After sending work off-site to Spectrum (to train students including Jeremy on the process and build teamwork skills), we are now working towards our goal of co-locating Spectrum Works students here on a permanent basis. According to recent statistics, approximately 1 in 36 children in the United States are diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder and only approximately 15% of autistic adults are employed. Additionally, due to the scarcity of opportunities in supportive work environments, nearly half of 25-year-olds with autism have never held a paying job. Spectrum Works aims to address these challenges by providing job training, employment support, and raising awareness about the valuable contributions autistic individuals can make in the workforce.
